States Favoring Foreign Industrial Growth in Air Quality Plans

Favoring Foreign Pollution

Question:

► If all pollution is bad, why favor foreign pollution over domestic pollution?

Foreign pollution is not better for our lungs than domestic pollution–so why not have the associated industrial growth in the U.S.?  Plus, even if you believe it is better to have the pollution generated overseas, is it fair for my kids to breathe cleaner air in part because we have exported our pollution problems to other countries where other kids breathe dirtier air for producing less expensive goods for my kids to enjoy?  And doesn’t some or all this pollution blow back at my kids anyway?

It’s a small multi-pollutant world after all.

The world is changing.  We must change with it.  Time to transform the SIP process.  We can make it happen.
