Schoenbrod Saying Clean Air Act is Now “Stupid”

May 19, 2014

Clean Air Act Now StupidWasn’t it a huge relief to hear someone of Schoenbrod’s renown sum up what the Clean Air Act has become in such a succinct and honest word?  What beautiful grammatical profundity.

My dad was an alcoholic.  Dad was a Lutheran minister—and one of the most beautiful souls to walk this earth.  But Dad and vodka had a relationship.  For many years Dad tried to intellectualize and rationalize the problem.  Things didn’t change.  When things changed was when Dad reduced the problem to just one word, walked into a room full of people, and said:  “Hi . . . My name is Peter and I’m an alcoholic.”  One word.  Salve on an open wound.  Dad began to heal.

As long as we intellectualize and rationalize the Clean Air Act, we are like that alcoholic saying, “Yeah, this isn’t a perfect situation, but it could be worse.”  Relief will come when each of us reduces this problem to one word, stands up in public, and says, “yeah . . . this has gotten ‘stupid’”.  One word.  Salve on an open wound.  The healing will begin.

All will be well.  All is well.

The world is changing.  We must change with it.  Time to transform the SIP process.  We can make it happen.
