U.S. Supreme Court and Pollutant Transport Under the Clean Air Act

December 10, 2013

Pollutant Transport and the Clean Air ActThe U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments today on the cross-state air pollution rule.  Governors from the Eastern States also
have filed a petition with EPA seeking additional emission reductions from the Midwestern States.

Let’s see . . . the Northeastern States are pointing fingers at the Midwestern States.  The Midwestern States are pointing fingers at the Western States.  And the Western States are pointing fingers at the Far East.

Lots of finger pointing.

Does finger-pointing work for anyone?  Anyone’s marriage improving because of it?  It’s not helping mine.  Finger-pointing just seems to suck up my time, emotions, and resources from working on myself—which is the only thing I can control and which is my only real access point to improving my marriage.

Maybe we should develop an air quality management system that doesn’t require all this finger-pointing and requires us just to focus on ourselves?  Seems like both marriages and Clean Air Acts work better when everyone is focused on what they can do to improve to the situation.

The world is changing.  We must change with it.  Time to transform the SIP process.  We can make it happen.
