Clean Air Act Reform: Idealism or Pragmatism?

March 27, 2013

Sailboat and Clean Air Act“I admire your idealism . . .”

An audience member during the last SIP reform presentation I made prefaced a comment in this way.

Idealistic?  SIP reform?  As strange as this might initially sound, the most pragmatic thing I’ve been involved with is SIP reform.   The most idealistic endeavor has been engaging in the SIP process with the hope that air quality will be timely and cost-effectively improved.

I think we sometimes confuse pragmatism with idealism when pragmatism requires more than a couple day’s effort.

Time to transform the SIP process.  Time to venture forth.  We have not been designed for the harbor.  We have been designed for the sea.  All will be well.
